I’ve been speaking since elementary school. I won my first public speaking trophy in 4-H club 4th grade through 8th. I spoke through high school and into my professional life. As an adult, I’ve trained in Toastmasters and with private coaches.
And even after all of that, I hit a wall. I started resisting speaking altogether. I judged myself harshly, wondered what was wrong with me, and felt stuck in a way I couldn’t explain.
I’ve been doing energy and subconscious work for over 20 years, so I went into session mode. I used emotional freedom techniques to clear the fog, and what came out stunned me.
I traced the energy back to a moment in high school when I was running for student government president. I was new to the school, and politics got nasty. I had a rival. The criticism, the lies, the whisper campaigns — they stuck with me. Even though I knew they weren’t true, some part of me absorbed the rejection.
That imprint had been running in the background ever since, silently sabotaging me anytime I tried to fully step into visibility.
